Sony India expands its EXTRA BASS range of headphones

Sony India announced today a slew of EXTRA BASS headphones and wireless speakers. To start with the headphones are the wireless MDR-XB950B1 and wired MDR-XB550AP and MDR-XB510AS a splash proof, in-ear sports headphone. The MDR-XB950B1 a successor to MDR- XB950BT wireless headphones made especially for EDM Music and serious music lovers delivering powerful, enhanced bass response while supporting Bluetooth audio streaming. The headphones offer simplified connectivity with Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, making it easy to connect wirelessly. To enjoy the ultimate wireless audio streaming experience, the aptX and AAC codec support ensures maximum signal quality.

The listening experience can be controlled with the “Sony Headphones Connect” smartphone application. The app enables listeners to fully control the sound levels with an easy to use interface. The app adjusts the amplitude of audio signals at particular frequencies to emulate different listening experiences. It is also possible to tune the bass level with the CLEAR BASS feature to suit your preferred music preference.

The built-in rechargeable battery provides up to 18 hours of continuous, wireless music playback. When the battery does run low, passive mode allows for continued listening with the supplied cable. The XB950B1 also supports Bluetooth connectivity and hence can be paired with a smartphone to be used as a Bluetooth receiver.


Next in line is the MDR-XB550AP EXTRA BASS Wired headphones The XB550AP wired headphones feature a premium metal headband and specially designed ear-cups work in conjunction with the drivers to deliver powerful, deep and punchy enhanced bass response. The 30mm driver units deliver balanced sound with exceptional low-end, with 5 – 22,000 Hz frequency response.

The in-line remote with microphone allows for simple control: call answer/end, and audio track play/pause functionality while a durable, serrated cable design makes for a tangle-free experience. The free Smart Key App (available on Google Play) lets one customize the control of the in-line remote via your smartphone.


The last in the launch is the MDR-XB510AS EXTRA BASS in-ear sports headphones. The east to wear headphones with arc supporters provides a perfect, stable fit for active users and with an IPX5/IPX7 water-resistant design. The XB510AS can be worn while running in rain and are also highly sweat proof.

The MDR-XB950B1 is priced at Rs. 12,990 and will be available in Black and Blue colours. The MDR-XB550AP will retail for Rs. 3,290 and will be available in Black, Red, Blue, Green and White colours. The MDR-XB510AS will come for Rs. 2,790 in Black, Red, Blue, Green colours. All these headphones will be available from 20th April 2017.
