Steve Jobs disses Google’s “open” Android OS approach, calls 7-inch tablets Dead on Arrival

Apple Q4 earnings call was expectedly pleasant for the Cupertino giant. They posted a record revenue of $20.34 billion and net quarterly profit of $4.31 billion with international sales accounting for 57 percent of the quarter’s revenue.

But despite Apple faring well financially and iPhones selling 91 percent more than the previous quarter, Steve Jobs couldn’t help but take a jab at Google’s Android OS.

Steve Jobs claims that Google’s way of pitching Android OS as open won’t work as it “fragments” the OS due to modifcations and customizations from various OEMs. Instead he lauded iPhone’s “integrated” approach and thinks “integrated will triumph fragmented every time.”

If that was not enough, Jobs further claimed that 7-inch tablets running Android OS will be DOA aka Dead on Arrival. His reasoning is that the screen is small to give consumers the required user experience, also confirming that iPad won’t be released with a smaller screen.

Kunal what do you think?? I am in the same thoughts that Open Source OS wont give actual experience to people. Main reason is the same many OEM are jumping in & washing their hands in to Google, this may not run as longer as we may think the same happen to Windows CE when it was openly launched in Chinese market. Many companies they came flooded with the Windows CE edition and due to this Price war was so competitive that companies they started slashing their prices so badly.

Google has the same way but they may get some improvement in market i am not sure, but things what i have seen and experience in my recent visit in China, many companies they have come out with USD 80.00 Android devices, which means the price for the Google OS is already banged out in the market. There is/are no speciality, even they may give updates or new OS time to time, Price is so Down that you can find these Droid from a working class employee to a company CEO..

Guess what Google CEO is visiting somewhere and his Hotel Boy or a Cook or a Driver is having almost the same Device.

@Nilesh: Agree about the price but the fact that Android is gaining faster than iOS, is the reason why Apple is lashing out hard at Android. Apple rightfully, have reasons to tackle Android but saying that open and fragmentation is bad for users is wrong.
