Panasonic has issued a firmware update for its digital cameraS that turns your cheap 3rd party battery pack almost like a paperweight. Panasonic’s reasoning behind this move is that some batteries do not meet the safety standards put down by them and thus, are prone to overcharging, internal heating or short circuit that can harm the camera or even the user.

You can term it as a wicked move but if you see from Panasonic’s perspective, it could be done to save them from the impending lawsuits that may arise with the use of non-genuine batteries. Ok, they can earn some moolah too by selling their own branded batteries.

The whole list of cameras can be found overhere.
