Santa Monica Studio has announced God of War Laufey, the next mainline entry in the God of War series. The game was revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play and the game puts Faye — warrior, wife of Kratos, and the Golden Hand of the Jötnar — at the centre of the story for the first time.
Set after her death in the Norse saga, God of War Laufey follows Faye as she awakens in the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods — a transcendent realm where deities from across mythologies converge. Her mission: protect the plans she set in place for Kratos and Atreus, now threatened by forces within this new world.
Deborah Ann Woll, who voiced Faye in God of War Ragnarök, returns to lead the cast. She is joined by Jack Quaid as Phranque, a cosmic cube companion, and Perlina Lau as Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian tasked with protecting a powerful sword that Faye ultimately wields.
Combat is the highlight of the modern God of War franchise, and the latest installment will be no different. However, it will also draw inspiration from the Greek era’s movement and fluidity. Faye can move freely between ground and air without interrupting combat, and her soul manipulation abilities — rooted in her Jötnar heritage — allow her to detach enemy souls and use them offensively.
God of War Laufey is coming to PlayStation 5 with no word on the exact release date. The game is available to wishlist now on the PlayStation Store.
