Panasonic TS1 takes claim to world’s first rugged point-and-shoot camera

Panasonic’s onslaught of new digital cameras continues with Lumix TS1, which takes the crown to be the world’s first waterproof, shockproof and dustproof digital camera. The camera complies with the IP58 standard making it to resist water depth up to 10 feet, shock from a height of up to 5 feet and dust with rubber padding, reinforced glass and carbon resins.
The rugged quality does not hamper its photography abilities. It has a 12.1-megapixel sensor with 28mm wide-angle lens, 4.6X optical zoom, HD recording (720p) in AVCHD Lite format and its proprietary Intelligence Auto (iA) mode.
The camera will start retailing from April 2009 for $399.95.
