Dell didn’t seem to like it when HP’s Fred Bullock compared the excellent battery life of its Elitebook 6930p with a Dell laptop. Apparently in a bid to prove themselves, Dell put its Latitude E6400, HP Elitebook 6930p and Lenovo ThinkPad T400 to test.

Dell hired Principled Technologies to commission the study and used MobileMark 2007 for their battery test. The study proved that Latitude 6400 gave 19 hours to 20 hours 9 minutes of battery juice whereas HP came in at 21 hours 4 minutes.

HP did emerge as a winner but was the test really “apples-to-apples” as claimed by Dell? Not really. Further delving in the study shows that Dell used a 9-cell plus a battery slice whereas HP had a 6-cell one with the slice.

Even though Dell had a 9-cell battery, it couldn’t best a 6-cell one from HP. It would be really interesting to see the results if HP also sported a 9-cell battery in the test.

You can download the report from here. [PDF]

PS: Lenovo was not included in the test because they did not have an optional slice battery.
