LG has unveiled its third-generation Tandem OLED technology at SID Display Week 2026 with a focus on solutions optimized for the AI era.
The third-generation Tandem OLED, designed initially for automotive applications, delivers brightness of 1,200 nits and a rated lifespan of over 15,000 hours at room temperature without display degradation. LG Display says the new generation consumes 18% less power and lasts more than twice as long as the previous version. The gains come from a newly developed OLED element that optimises hole and electron movement to reduce degradation, combined with a deep-blue dopant that improves colour purity and brightness.
LG Display is also debuting a P-OLED panel for humanoid robots, applying automotive-grade Tandem OLED technology to flexible form factors capable of operating across varied temperature conditions.
On the TV side, the company is showcasing an OLED panel using its Primary RGB Tandem 2.0 technology, achieving peak brightness of 4,500 nits and reflectance of 0.3%. For gaming enthusiasts, LG Display is exhibiting a 27-inch OLED panel with a 720Hz refresh rate alongside the world’s first 39-inch 5K2K curved OLED panel. A 16-inch Tandem OLED for AI laptops is also on display, which promises to extend battery life by up to 2.3 hours over conventional OLED.
