Samsung launches the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in India

March 6, 2018 By Anish 1 Comment

The latest flagships from Samsung, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ launched today in India. Focussing on the communication mode via pictures and videos, the devices feature one of the best low-light cameras in the Samsung portfolio. The cameras also offer Super Slow-mo video capabilities up to 960 fps and personalized AR Emoji. After capturing the Super Slow-mo video, users can select background music from 35 different options or add a tune from their favorite playlist. Users can also easily create, edit and share GIF files with a simple tap in three playful styles of looping to watch the action over and over again. As mentioned earlier, the highlight of the S9+ is the camera. Samsung uses dual aperture camera (F1.5 / F2.4) that automatically lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright, taking photos that are crisp and clear.

Another highlight of the phone is the AR emoji, much like the iPhone X it scans user face to create emojis that can be shared as a sticker or standard GIF. The emoji created from this works across major third-party messaging platform. The new updated version of the Bixby allows you to translate currencies and text in real-time.

While in terms of looks, the S9 series are no different than the predecessor S8, however the flagships now feature stereo speakers tuned by AKG with Dolby Atmos support. The devices are IP68 certified for protection against water and dust. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ support three different biometric authentication options – iris, fingerprint, and facial recognition. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ also introduce Dedicated Fingerprint, giving users the option to use a different fingerprint to access Secure Folder than the one used to unlock the phone.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ feature improved optical sensor built directly into the device that provides information on users’ health status. This sensor allows the Galaxy S9 and S9+ to keep track of users’ Heart Load Factor, a new measurement of the real-time demand placed on the heart.

In terms of hardware specifications, the S9 features 5.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display with a screen ratio of 18.5:9, on the other hand, the S9+ comes with a 6.2-inch screen. Both the devices run on Android Oreo powered by 64-bit Octa-core processors. The S9 features 4GB RAM and 3000mAh battery, while the S9+ features 6GB RAM and 3500mAh battery. The storage options in both the devices are 64GB/128GB/25GB. They also accept microSD cards up to 400GB.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available starting in March 16, 2018 from Flipkart and offline stores. The colours of the phone are Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue and a new hue, Lilac Purple. The price for S9 64GB is Rs. 57,900 and 256GB is Rs. 65,900. The S9+ 64Gb will retail for Rs. 64,900 and 256GB for Rs. 72,900.

One can get a cashback of Rs. 6,000 in case you buy the phone from Paytm Mall. Using HDFC Bank Credit/Debit cards can also provide you a discount of Rs. 6,000 plus exchange bonus on existing Samsung phones. Besides this, Samsung has also tied up with mobile phone operators. Airtel offers the phone for Rs. 9,900 for one time down payment plus the balance of Rs. 2,499 for for 24 months. With Vodafone, you also get 12-months Netflix subscription free with a selected plan. For Jio users, an annual plan of Rs. 4,999 with the Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ will give a 1TB of data for a year. Samsung is also launching its loyalty program, Samsung Rewards in India that will reward users on using the service.
