Review: Sony SRS XB10

June 30, 2017 By Anish Leave a Comment

There are a plethora of Bluetooth portable speakers for mobile phones available in the market. They come in different sizes and shapes. However, the Sony XB10 is a small speaker but packs a punch when it comes to sound. The XB in the name stands for the Xtra Bass, although not much but surely better than some of the portable speakers we have heard recently.

The ‘can’ shaped speaker comes with rubberised material that tends to give it a firm grip when placed on the table. This makes the speaker stay firm even when you crank up the volume, on the flipside, the rubber-like material tends to attract dust.

The XB10 comes with a strap that can be used to hang the speaker or use it as a stand to mount the speaker. The XB10 is water resistant, this means you can even take it in your shower. The XB10 weighs around 320 grams and is light and portable. You can connect your phone with Bluetooth on NFC. To connect, just press and hold the power button. This was pretty straightforward and unlike other Bluetooth speakers that require a combination of keys to connect using Bluetooth, this is simple. You can even add an extra speaker for stereo sound. Upon a single charge Sony claims that the speaker offers 16 hours of battery life. During our test we got around 14 hours of playback time. It also comes with built-in microphone for speakerphone capabilities and also accepts audio input. The speaker can be charged using the Micro-USB, Sony bundles a cable with the speaker. The XB10 is available in various colour. The one we received for review is a black one.

In terms of performance, this tiny speaker delivers good quality sound output, however, at higher volume there is distortion. The bass punch is mid-range, do not expect a heavy bass from the same. Overall, we were pretty satisfied with the sound performance and the overall quality of the speakers. Priced at Rs. 4,999, the XB10 offers good value for money. So if you are on a hunt for a good portable speaker or want to gift someone, the XB10 will not disappoint you.
