World gets BlackBerry, China gets RedBerry

April 12, 2006 By Kunal Gangar 2 Comments

China’s one of the leading mobile operator, Unicom has launched a push email service called as the RedBerry. Its name is a clear attack on RIM’s BlackBerry service which they are going to launch in China with China Mobile by the end of the next month.

Unicom in its press release states that the firm is ready to challenge the BlackBerry push-mail service. They also stated,

The RedBerry name extends the vivid name of BlackBerry that people are already familiar with, and it also combines the new red symbol of China Unicom.

Things are not going smooth for RIM in 2006, first it was the case with NTP and now a stiff competition from an unexpected competitor and surely is more cheap what Blackberry offers.

I think RIM will even find it harder next year, I was using the Nokia E61 the other day and it’s just way ahead of the BB. But, in saying that I haven’t seen the BB Perl yet.
