Asus has announced the ROG Crosshair 2006, a special edition motherboard built as an aesthetic tribute to the first ROG motherboard released 20 years ago. It is a cousin of the Crosshair X870E Dark Hero, finished in a dominant copper colour with small touches of blue and white that reference the original ROG design.
The ROG Crosshair 2006 features a 2-inch OLED screen mounted on the primary M.2 slot, which displays system information such as CPU clock speed, device temperatures, and fan speeds. The screen ships with two exclusive animations, one referencing the original 2006 design and one marking the 20th anniversary. Users can also load custom images or animations.
The board carries a 20(110A)+2(110A)+2 power stage design, ProCool II power connectors, MicroFine alloy chokes, and 10K black metallic capacitors, paired with heatsinks integrated into the I/O cover. Memory support has been upgraded through a server-grade ultra low-etch PCB process, PCB back drilling, NitroPath DRAM Technology, and AEMP, targeting high-end DDR5 kits with AMD Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs.
Storage and expansion include two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and five M.2 slots, along with M.2 Q-Latch, M.2 Q-Release, and M.2 Q-Slide tool-less mechanism support.
Connectivity covers WiFi 7, 10G and 5G Ethernet, two onboard USB4 ports, and a front-panel USB Type-C header with Quick Charge 4+ up to 60 watts. The board also supports the Asus AIO Q-Connector, which delivers power and control signals to compatible AIO liquid coolers without cables between the motherboard and radiator. The first compatible coolers come from the ROG Strix LC IV Series.
Asus has not revealed the exact pricing, but expect it to be pricier than the Crosshair X870E Dark Hero, considering its special edition status.
