Airtel has launched its wireless home internet service based on 5G called the Xstream AirFiber. This home internet device operates wirelessly on Airtel’s 5G Plus network to power up all your devices with superfast Wi-Fi. It is a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution. For the uninitiated, FWA provides high-speed internet access to fixed locations or buildings, using wireless technology instead of traditional wired connections such as fiber optic cables or copper lines.
In FWA, a wireless transmitter or receiver is installed at the customer’s premises and is connected to an antenna that communicates with a nearby cell tower or base station. The wireless signal is transmitted over the airwaves, and the receiver translates it into data that can be used by the customer’s devices, such as computers, phones, or other internet-connected devices.
The device features WiFi 6 hence can deliver better speeds that support the same. Currently, Xstream AirFiber is only available in Mumbai and Delhi. It comes with a 6 month plan with speed of 100Mbps at Rs. 4,435 (exclusive of GST). There is also a one-time refundable security deposit of Rs. 2500 on the device.
Very soon, Jio will also be launching its AirFiber based on 5G.
