Pundi X, a blockchain developer, had previously announced XPhone, a blockchain-powered smartphone. At IFA 2019, it renamed the name of the phone to Blok on Blok (BOB) and gave it a new look. BOB will be the first smartphone where every bit of data will be executed on the Function X blockchain ecosystem which is developed by the company.
Like cryptocurrency, the BOB will use a decentralised blockchain network to make calls. Besides this, BOB also allows one to switch between blockchain mode and Android mode. The Blockchain mode runs on the open-source f(x) OS and on the other hand Android mode will work like the conventional Android-powered device. The hardware specifications of BOB are Snapdragon 660 processor with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Apparently, these are also the minimum requirements of a blockchain phone.
Since the initial XPhone, BOB has gone through a design of changes, both internal and external. Each unit of BOB will come with the MOD Assembly Kit, which consists of detachable parts that make up the XPhone’s external look. The MOD Assembly Kit comprises of a motherboard, display screen, camera, audio speaker parts, buttons and aesthetic accessory enhancements. The kit will be accompanied by a detailed instructional guide and video. For the more hands-on creators, you will have the option to 3D print additional phone parts to add to your BOB.
As a prototype, BOB will have 5000 units in the first batch. It is priced at USB 999 and will be available on Kickstarter.
