Samsung announces Galaxy Note7, updated Gear VR headset

August 2, 2016 By Anish Leave a Comment

Galaxy Note7

Are you ready for another Samsung flagship? Doesn’t matter because Samsung has announced the latest instalment in the Galaxy Note series – Galaxy Note7. The Galaxy Note7 is very similar to Samsung’s bestselling Galaxy S7 edge in terms of hardware but adds a little extra to make it worthy of the Note tag.

The Galaxy Note7 now features a dual-edge display and is water and dust resistant, thanks to the IP68 certification. The phone will be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 14nm processor along with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB UFS 2.0 internal memory. The device also supports expansion of memory through the microSD card slot supporting up to 256GB. Additionally, the Galaxy Note7 comes with Dual Pixel 12 megapixel main camera, 5 megapixel front-facing camera, 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, heart rate sensor, NFC, Samsung Pay and KNOX support, 3500mAh battery and fast charging support.

However, the most interesting things include the new USB Type-C port, an iris scanner for authentication, in addition to the fingerprint sensor, improved S Pen that comes with features like Magnify and Translate.

The phone will go on sale from August 19 and since Samsung has scheduled an event on August 11 for the Indian market, we can assume the Indian release date will coincide with the global schedule.

Gear VR

Meanwhile, Samsung also introduced a new Gear VR headset that is lighter and offers a larger field of view for clearer picture. However, the important thing with the new VR headset is that it will be compatible with both Galaxy Note7 and previous Galaxy S and Note devices since it will support USB Type-C and microUSB connectors.
