Motorola India’s Country Head Subhendu Mohanty recently confirmed to Business Standard that they’re in talks with Indian telcos to adopt its iSIM solution. iSIM or Intelligent SIM by Motorola is a solution based on a flexible wafer that is attached to the subscriber’s original SIM card. The iSIM provides additional services via the SIM’s toolkit.
“We are in talks with all Indian players for our intelligent SIM (iSIM) application. We hope to strike a deal in the second quarter of this financial year,” said Mohanty.
Though Motorola is pitching the solution to create an additional avenue for developers, the iSIM’s biggest advantage is the support for four different IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) profiles, which is a 15-digit unique code for each SIM. With the integration of iSIM, a user can have access to up to four different IMSI profiles, effectively having four different numbers on a single SIM (and can work on a single SIM handset).
