Google today announced the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS along with their new Nexus S device built in collaboration with Samsung. The Android 2.3 brings some new features for the end-users as well as developers.
Users can expect the UI to be more refined and fast, improved on-screen keyboard with one-touch word selection and copy/paste, improved power management, SIP, NFC support and ability to access multiple cameras, if available.
Developers will gain access to more APIs like new sensor types support, OpenGL ES, native access to assets, storage, improvements across the system to suit game developers and more.
The only confirmed devices to get Android 2.3 are Nexus One, which will get in the coming weeks and Nexus S that comes pre-installed with the OS.

I remember when the galaxy S phones were being released and I defended Samsung saying that they had learned their lesson. All this gingerbread news is just making me and I’m sure other galaxy S users depressed/pissed. I’m never buying a Samsung phone again.

@Mark: True. But it’s just a matter of time when hackers will port the Nexus S’ firmware to Galaxy S.
