Blu-ray association has announced new media specifications that will up the storage capacity of the Blu-ray discs. They have announced the BDXL (High Capacity Recordable and Rewritable discs) and IH-BD (Intra-Hybrid discs) specifications where BDXL is the big brother here. BDXL discs will be able to store data up to 128GB. The write-once discs will come in 100GB or 128GB options whereas the rewritable BDXL discs will store up to 100GB.
On the other hand, the IH-BD discs will incorporate a single BD layer that will allow consumers to store only 25GB of data.
The first discs with these specs support are expected in coming months.
