Samsung has pulled out another first. This time they have developed the world’s first 4GB DDR3 RAM based on 50nm process technology. These DRAMs favor servers because of its high density and low power consumption (40% less than 2GB DDR3), helping to increase the overall efficiency of the servers and decrease upkeep costs.
Samsung claims this can be used to produce 16GB registered dual in-line memory modules (RDIMM) for servers, as well as 8GB unbuffered DIMM (UDIMM) for workstations and desktop PCs, and 8GB small outline DIMM (SODIMM) for notebook PCs. The dual-die package technology makes it possible to produce modules of up to 32GB, which is double the capacity as compared to memory modules based on 2GB density.
The availability and price is yet to be disclosed.
