STM Myth 18L Backpack Review

August 28, 2019 By Anish Leave a Comment

STM Myth Laptop Backpack

People buy expensive laptops all the time, but ignore the same philosophy when it comes to buying a laptop backpack that helps them carry it every day. Either we use the one that is provided by the store or the manufacturer for free along with the laptop purchase or we tend to use an ordinary laptop backpack that does not offer protection or is not airport security friendly.

However, today, we show you a backpack that is smart and also provides protection to your laptop and gadgets.

STM stands for Smarter than Most, it’s an Australian company that sells its backpacks online via Amazon. The one we are reviewing here is an 18L capacity backpack and it is also available in 28L capacity. There are three colours available of the backpack, Slate Blue (reviewed), Windsor Wine and Granite Black.

Design and Looks

STM Myth Laptop Backpack

Nowadays, laptop backpacks do not only offer utility or are functional, but they also ought to look smart. Having said that, the Myth laptop backpack is a combination of both. It has a simple yet premium-looking design with the front having an embossed STM logo at the top left corner and a stitched one on the left strap. The zip liners and the handle are black. There are two reflective strips at the bottom on the front. The laptop is designed especially for those who want to carry their laptops along with other personal gadgets. The main compartment of the backpack has an almost end-to-end opening which gives you easy access to the stuff inside the backpack.

The rear straps of the bag are not directly stitched on the bag, which is the case in conventional backpacks, rather they are stitched to the back-panel which curves on the top, this provides good weight distribution.

Functionality of the backpack

The Myth laptop backpack is pockets galore. There are a lot of nifty pockets to stow your things whilst on travel. The front of the backpack features a horizontal pocket with a punch-hole so that you can pass the charging cable from the backpack and use the phone in your hand while lugging the bag on your back. At the top, there is a small pocket that can be used to keep your sunglasses. There are three zip-liners on the exterior with a black rubber material puller. While the one inside the bag is a uses a regular steel zip puller. There are orange coloured clips and rubber straps inside the main compartment to manage your charging cables or wired earphones. We loved the earphone manager that is found inside at the top which gives you tangle-free wired earphone storage. The padding on the backpack is topnotch. As per STM, the foam that is used in the Myth laptop backpack is polyethylene foam. This foam is known for its durability, lightweight and strength. This foam is often used to pack fragile goods as it offers good vibration dampening and insulation. The backpack uses a fabric type material, however, it is water repellent as STM has applied a C6 Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating. C6 is a type of chemical, which when applied to the fabric protects it from water as it forms round droplets which result in less surface area and the water droplet easily rolls off the surface.

The main storage compartment of the backpack features a laptop pocket and three smaller pockets for stowing other things. There are also a couple of small pockets that can hold a pen, USB sticks, coins, etc. The laptop pocket is padded nicely, however, it can only hold laptops or devices up to 15-inch, slim types. We could easily stow our Lenovo Ideapad Flex 4 laptop which has a slim profile. Apart from this, you can also keep an e-book reader, tablet and other gadgets like earphones, chargers, portable charging bank and more. The highlight of the backpack is that this is luggage pass-through ready. This is a suitcase strap that is integrated with the back padding at the rear which can be attached to the handle of the suitcase, thus instead of lugging it around, you can securely connect the backpack to your suitcase.

Conclusion

The 18L capacity backpack that we reviewed here is available on Amazon for Rs. 6292, there is also a 28L version as mentioned before. The Myth laptop backpack offers both style and function, besides this the quality of materials used in the backpack is good. At this price point, there are various options as a buyer, we would suggest if you are in search of a good laptop backpack that you would use it for years to come, do give Myth laptop backpack a try.
