WhatsApp is the most popular messaging App, with almost everyone using the same for messaging and voice/video calls. As mobile internet gets affordable (thanks to Jio), the usage of WhatsApp goes beyond just sharing emoticons or text. Earlier WhatsApp started to support sharing of office files like doc, xls, xlsx, pdf and more. Now it has expanded its support of allowing to share media files across devices. Although this update has rolled out to a selected few since this is in testing phase.
The restriction however of sharing the files are 128MB for iOS devices, 100MB for Android devices and 64MB for WhatsApp Web client. While the limit seems low, another aspect to this can be also to curb video piracy wherein people would just start sharing huge video files to friends and peers. Besides this, WhatsApp is also planning to introduce peer-to-peer payment system powered by UPI in India, its largest user base country.
