Review: STK Groovez SMC650 Bluetooth Speaker

January 25, 2015 By Kunal Gangar Leave a Comment

STK Groovez SMC650

One quick search on Indian online retailers like Amazon or Flipkart and you’ll know consumers are spoilt for choice when it comes to portable Bluetooth speakers. We’ve got speakers ranging across every price point but STK’s Groovez SMC650 is going for consumers looking for affordable solution.

The compact SMC650 features a cone-shaped design and works with any Bluetooth or non-Bluetooth supported devices. The speaker boasts a glossy black finish with physical controls like a call receive/end button, rewind, play and fast forward button. Interestingly, there’s no dedicated volume button but can be controlled with the rewind and FF buttons. On the other side, you’ll find a miniUSB port for charging the speaker, a microSD card slot and an aux-in whereas the power on switch is located at the bottom. The speaker is also fitted with an anti-slip base that ensures the speaker a good grip when placed on a flat surface.

Making the SMC650 work is easy. Pair it with a mobile device and you’ve got a loudspeaker to play music and even act as a hands free for the smartphone. Don’t want to stream through the mobile device? Use the speaker as a standalone music player by inserting a microSD card (supports up to 32GB) or insert the 3.5mm audio cable in the aux-in port to listen to FM Radio.

As for the music quality, STK has integrated a 3W speaker that does not offer a deep bass but has a satisfactory overall audio output if you keep the volume two to three notches down the full volume. The sound tends to tear up when you keep it at full volume. The speaker runs for about 3 hours while streaming through Bluetooth or about 5 hours when you use it as a standalone music player.

All said and done, the SMC650 is a nice compact speaker that offers a good bang for the buck in range of Rs. 2,000.

Rating: 35stars
Pros: Compact design, Easy to Use
Cons: Audio tears up on full volume
