Nokia Lumia 625 Review

October 7, 2013 By Kunal Gangar Leave a Comment

Nokia Lumia 625

There’s a considerable amount of demand from consumers for devices with large screens. What was considered big in terms of display size has now become the norm in today’s mobile phone market. Nokia too, is trying to ride their luck with the new Lumia 625 that hit the Indian market few weeks ago. But will a larger-sized Lumia appeal to the crowd? We take a look.

Nokia Lumia 625

Nokia follows a simple nomenclature when it comes to naming their devices. The Lumia 625 understandably, is superior when you compare with the Lumia 620 but falls short in some departments when pitted against the Lumia 720. This of course, does not takes the display into consideration because Lumia 625 possesses the biggest display you’d find on a Lumia right now. The screen size measures 4.7-inches and supports WVGA (800×480) resolution. Admittedly, WVGA is low by today’s smartphone standards but there’s not much to complain about when you view on the Lumia 625. The colour production on the display is decent, text is not as sharp but acceptable and good viewing angle.

Moving onto the design, Lumia 625 looks more or less similar to the existing Lumia range, which means it boasts the same colourful design Lumia devices are associated with. The Lumia 625 is now a bit wider and sports a front-facing camera along with the display and the three touch-sensitive buttons on the front, volume, power/lock and camera buttons are on the right hand side, microUSB port at the bottom, 3.5mm headphone jack at the top and a 5MP with LED flash at the back.

Nokia has gone with a removable back that gives users the liberty to swap different coloured shells.

In addition to the large display, the Lumia 625 also runs Windows Phone 8 with Lumia Amber update out of the box. The Amber update brings quite a few improvements to the Lumia device but most notably includes the Nokia Smart Cam app. The app is truly amazing as it enhances the overall functionality of the camera. With Nokia Smart Cam, a single tap will enable users to do lots of things with the captured image. For instance, a user will be able to select Best Shot, Action Shot, Motion Focus, Change Faces and even Remove Moving Objects.

If you’re not a fan of this new camera lens, you can download additional ones from the Windows Store or use the vanilla Windows Phone 8 camera interface. The picture quality is decent and even records videos in full HD resolution.

Although, Nokia Lumia devices are packed with apps like HERE Maps and Drive, Nokia Music, Xpress browser and PhotoBeamer, the Lumia 625 also pre-loads two new apps – Your Movies and Flipkart eBooks. Your Movies is a special app for Lumia 625 that allows to stream or even download a plethora of movies on the device for a limited time. Nokia had confirmed to update the library continuously and even offer subscription options once the limited free period is over. Flipkart eBooks gives Rs. 2,000 worth of free ebooks once you login with your Flipkart account credentials.

Nokia Lumia 625

The Lumia 625 is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM and its safe to say that the device works pretty well without any issues.

Nokia’s target market with the Lumia 625 is pretty clear – it goes for the consumers who require a large screen Lumia experience. The Windows Phone 8 powering the device maybe the same as other Lumias but Nokia makes this offering attractive by pre-loading the Lumia Amber update along with an exclusive movies streaming/downloading app and ebook freebies.

Nokia Lumia 625 goes for Rs. 14,500.
