Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 OS has achieved the RTM status, according to The Verge. RTM or Release to Manufacturing is the confirmation that the Windows 8.1 code is ready to be shipped to manufacturers to pre-load the OS on their devices. The final build number of the RTM is 9600 and according to the website, Microsoft will officially announce the final status of Windows 8.1 later this week.
Existing Windows 8 users will get the Windows 8.1 update for free from October 18 (or October 17 depending on the timezone you live in) and MSDN and TechNet customers will receive it closer to the retail release.
Windows 8.1 brings lots of features along with better performance. Some notable features include better snap view, revival of the Start button, search, boot to Desktop mode.
