LG takes the crown for developing world’s largest 55-inch OLED TV Panel

OLED displays are the future and it seems LG has taken the first major step in order to popularize and make it cheaper. The Korean company announced the development of a 55-inch OLED TV panel, which is touted as the world’s largest. LG says OLED with smaller display sizes (in mobile devices) are expensive to produce but that is not the case when it comes to producing a large panel.

The 55-inch OLED TV panel uses Oxide TFT technology and White OLED which LG says results in lower error rate and higher productivity. Additionally, the use of OLED panels will result in a thinner television set (about 5mm) and boasts a contrast ratio of 100,000:1.

LG will showcase the new panel at CES 2012 next month.
