HTC today responded to claims put forth by Apple in its lawsuit yesterday. In a statement filed Taiwan Stock Exchange, HTC has denied all infringements. The statement says “HTC is not only an innovator in mobile technology but also an owner of many patents. We take American and international patent rights protection seriously. We will closely cooperate with US justice system in the case to protect our own innovative values and rights.”
Meanwhile HTC’s CFO, Hui-Ming Cheng said that it’s early to judge the impact of the suit as their legal team is still going through the details.
“Our legal counsel is still studying the matter and we’re still trying to understand the details of the case.”
HTC may have taken by surprise with this lawsuit but going through the filings, it seems HTC is just being a proxy to a war between Apple and Google as Apple has specifically targeted Android devices. To thicken the plot, Google issued a statement to Techcrunch that they’ll back HTC and its Android OS.
“We are not a party to this lawsuit. However, we stand behind our Android operating system and the partners who have helped us to develop it.”
