After promising to change everything we know, Creative’s Zii suddenly flew into thin air with no updates for about five months or so. But the good thing is that it is back and looks as if Creative employees were working hard to justify the claim. They are working on a new powerful PMP powered by the Zii SoC.
The actual details and pictures are still under wraps but an FCC filing uncovers some meaty facts. Apparently, Zii will come in two variants, called as ‘Zii’ for the consumers and ‘Zii EGG’, a device for the developers. We don’t know the difference between these but Zii EGG is expected to offer more control to the users as well as unlock some hidden features, which we may not find in the consumer version.
Amongst the known things, as we can see there’s a camera at the top-left which will be able to record HD videos (presumably at 720p), a touchscreen display and the SoC prowess that will allow HD playback as well as decent gaming. All in all, a fierce competitor for the iPod Touch and Zune HD is in the making.
