Nokia N97 processor details now out

April 27, 2009 By Kinjal Sangoi 7 Comments

Nokia N97

Right from the first day of N97’s launch, Nokia has revealed almost everything about the phone except its processor details. This has kept everyone guessing if Nokia was using some new secret processor to power the multimedia device. Sadly, it turns out to be an ARM11 CPU with a clock speed at 434MHz. That’s about the same as N86 8MP and slower when you pit it against 5630XM’s 600MHz ARM11.

Is it only me that thinks that i8910 HD is a better option against N97?

better of? N97? Dude, i8910 HD can record videos at 720p which I dont think N97 is able to do. That alone, is a selling point for me.

Yeah dude, and you better make sure you have those memory cards backed up… given the storage space. I will give you, that is the only spec that pips the N97 at the post. But, then I wonder just how different it will really look on the phone.

No, not convinced, although i will give you one thing, it does look nice.

I agree with you Simon. But the thing is Omnia HD has an 800MHz CPU making N97 (which is supposed to be Nokia’s multimedia flagship phone) seriously underpowered.

Dave, when I saw the CPU, I almost cried…. but saying that, although surprised and disappointed, I did wonder what the fuss was about, when you consider the N95 and N96 are using it, I have had no problems.

Saying that, I still need a smart phone, I use the Web, and I need the browser to support flash, which the Omnia does not, and I need the memory, as I like watching films into the hotel TV’s when away, and of course it supports BBC Iplayer.

You are right. But now we won’t be able to compare like the original Omnia because both the phones have the same OS on a different hardware. So hardware-wise if you see, Omnia HD is better but Nokia has a loyal base which can help sell N97 more than Omnia HD.

For novice user, i bet Nokia still the best choices because of the brand. And the selling point of second hand Nokia still high compare to others.
