Intel and Singapore-based Creative have entered into an agreement to license patents and some assets of ZiiLABS, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Creative. Under the agreement, Intel will pay Creative a sum of US$50 million which includes US$20 million to Creative for licensing ZiiLABS’ GPU technology and the rest US$30 million for transfer of “certain engineering resources and assets.”
However, Creative is quick to confirm that they’ll still retain the ownership of StemCell media processor and will continue to produce devices with ZMS-20 and ZMS-40 chips.
The licensing would help Intel to leverage its chips for mobile devices.
