Creative Zii

As promised, Creative has announced Zii. To fully promote its Zii platform, Creative has floated a new firm by the name of ZiiLABS that will develop chips for Zii. The first initiative from them is the ZMS-05 SoC (System-On-Chip) which is nothing but a media-rich processor with dual ARM cores and integrated I/Os as well as peripheral functions to perform media intensive tasks at ease. The ‘Stemcell’ in this whole marketing campaign is the approach that Creative will follow. Stemcell computing will result in benefits like Flexibility, Scalability and Energy Efficiency.

– Flexibility – Utilizing a breakthrough technology comprising of programmable Processing Elements (PEs) which are basically Software Defined Silicon.

– Scalability – 10Gigaflops to Petaflops (1015 floating point operation per second).

– Energy Efficiency – Huge processing power of the ZMS-05 SoC enables it to perform more in less time, equating to low power consumption.

Creative’s ZMS-05 is already in production and can be integrated in devices ranging from PMPs, MIDs, netbooks, mobile phones and many more.

Companies like MicroStar International, Perception digital, F&S Electronic, MediaNet, ASTAK, PowerLinux and Grandeye are already said to be working on ZMS chip based devices.
