This shouldn’t come as a surprise but the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has again delayed the implementation of Mobile Number Portability (MNP). MNP that was scheduled to go live today has now been pushed to November 25 and will be launched initially in Haryana.
For the uninitiated, MNP is a service that will allow users to change their cellular operators without giving up their phone numbers. Interested subscribers will need to send an SMS to 1900 where he’ll receive a unique porting code. This porting code needs to be filled with the application for the new service operator.
DoT says a user has to pay Rs. 19 as porting charges and will require a minimum of 4 days to transfer the number to a new operator.
