Sony Ericsson is the latest company to leave the world’s most used smartphone OS for the new shiny Google operating system. Sony Ericsson’s spokesperson, Aldo Liguori confirmed to Bloomberg that they have “no plans to develop any new products to the Symbian Foundation standard or operating system.”
This is major blow to Symbian as the OS fails to lure manufacturers as compared to other smartphones OSes.
For future devices, Sony Ericsson will use Android OS as they “have made a significant shift to support Android.” Ligouri says Sony Ericsson won’t use Android exclusively but it has a fair chance to rule Sony Ericsson’s smartphone portfolio.
