Canon has successfully managed to create a APS-H size CMOS sensor that can take pictures to up to 120 megapixel resolution (13,280×9,184 pixels). This new sensor has the world’s highest resolution for its size and when compared to Canon’s current highest-resolution CMOS sensor, the new APS-H size sensor is 7.5 times larger and 2.4-fold improvement in resolution.
With some tweaking of the readout circuit timing, the new CMOS sensor manages to capture 9.5 frames per second making it compatible with continuous shooting of ultra-high resolution photos.
However, taking ultra-high resolution photos is not the only thing the new sensor is capable of. The new sensor supports full HD video recording too.
There’s no word as to when we can expect a product carrying this powerful sensor.
