When repeated requests don’t work, Indian telecom ministry has to resort to carrot and stick method. TRAI’s Chairman, JS Sharma has said that Mobile Number Portability (MNP) services will be implemented nationwide from October 31.
What if it gets delayed just like previous times? Sharma says there will be no further delay because if operators do not meet the deadline by completing the requisite tests, they’ll be barred from launching new commercial services.
“It has been decided that permission to launch commercial service in any area with effect from September 1, 2010 shall be given to only those licensee(s) who are MNP compliant.”
The stern warning does give us some hope but we would prefer to wait for the actual thing to happen.
