Blu-ray Disc Association approves BDXL Format Specs

Back in April, the Blu-ray Disc Association had announced new BD specifications that would increase the storage of BD discs. Now they’ve announced the finalization and release of the BDXL specs that will bring BD discs with up to 128GB of capacity.

The new discs with BDXL specs will help broadcasting, medical industry to store heaps of data. Rewriteable and write-once discs with triple layer will be able to hold up to 100GB of data whereas four layer BD discs will store up to 128GB.

BDA is now allowing manufacturing to acquire licensing information so as to begin production of high capacity discs.
