HD2 seemed one of the few devices that would run Windows Phone 7 OS flawlessly. But Microsoft today dropped the bomb saying that HD2 doesn’t make the cut to receive the upgrade, as previously rumored. As a matter of fact no phones currently running Windows Mobile 6.x OS will receive an upgrade. Why? Well, we’re not sure about other phones but Natasha Kwan, General Manager for Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific region confirmed to APC that HD2 “doesn’t qualify because it doesn’t have the three buttons”.
Three button reason seem absurd, which is why Tony Wilkinson, Business Operations Director for Microsoft Australia elaborated further that “there are some hardware components that the HD doesn’t have”.
Whatever the real case is, Microsoft looks pretty stern regarding the phone’s spec. Full manufacturer spec is expected to be unveiled at this month’s MIX developer conference in U.S.
