Microsoft and Amazon have agreed to enter into a patent cross-licensing agreement. With the agreement in place, both companies will have access to patents from a broad range of products and technology. The intrinsic details are kept confidential but Microsoft has confirmed that Amazon will pay them an undisclosed amount as per the agreement.
Microsoft will gain access to patents related to Kindle that consists of open source and proprietary components, Amazon’s use of Linux-based servers and more.
Microsoft is the largest patent holder in the software industry and has entered into more than 600 licensing agreements since the starting of IP licensing program in 2003.
