Indian 3G Spectrum Auction will take place on Jan 14

After innumerable delays and hurdles, the Indian government will finally auction the 3G spectrum to private players. The auction is set to take place on January 14 and four slots will be allotted, in addition to already allotted to state-owned BSNL and MTNL.

“Auction will be according to the schedule. Allotment of spectrum to maintain the level playing field will be by August 2010.”

The government is expected to earn in excess of 250 billion rupees by auctioning the spectrum.
