Say goodbye to road name directions. Google Maps has introduced landmark-based driving directions for the Indian consumers so when you’re going from say, location A to location B, Google Maps won’t give you directions to take a Left from Road XYZ but instead will say take a left from DEF Petrol Pump and so on.
It’s a smart move and I guess Google has done the right thing by launching it first in India since Indian road names are really messed up. There are numerous instances where the government or municipality authorities coin a new name but the road is still recognized with the old name, causing confusion.
