WSJ: Dell preparing an Android MID

Dell’s smartphone rumors have been going on since the beginning of the year but here’s a rather interesting piece that, for a change does not talk about its smartphone plans. In fact, WSJ cites their sources who claim that Dell is creating an ARM powered Android MID, akin to iPod Touch but a bit larger. While there are no additional details about the device in respect of specifications, another source chimed in to say that Dell is planning to release it this year, next or even scrap the idea entirely.
Dell’s foray into small portable devices after the demise of Axim PDA is not new. They planned a music player but was canned later on while its first prototype of phone was rejected to be too ‘generic’ by cellphone carriers.
The source finally signed off by saying that Dell will look to sell these MIDs through carriers, which could pave way for its smartphones, again rumored to go on sale later this year.
