Seiko Epson is using its Micro Piezo inkjet technology that will enable uniform layers of organic material into 37-inch and larger sized OLED TVs. Since the current Vacuum thermal evaporation (VTE) technique that deposits organic materials on the substrates are ineffective on larger sized OLED, Epson’s inkjet technology helps to achieve the same, efficiently and at a lesser cost. It uses the same drop-on-demand approach as an inkjet printer by depositing organic materials at the exact location with the exact amount.
