An interview with a Finnish broadcaster, Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo confirmed that they are actively looking to enter the laptop business. The reason for this is the rapid convergence between the computers and mobile phones, making Nokia to move towards the next evolution of phones.
The rumors were rife about Nokia’s entrance in the laptop market and the recent one came from Eldar Murtazin that Nokia is already preparing an MID based on ARM’s multi-core Sparrow chip. Eldar claims to have played with the early prototype and was amazed with the effort.
In other report by Digitimes, Nokia is already seeking a Taiwanese OEM to manufacture Nokia branded netbooks. While Nokia hasn’t zeroed in the choice of platform, the netbook will be either based on Intel’s Atom or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon. The two major contenders likely to score a deal are Compal Electronics and Foxconn.
