Palm revealed almost everything in its announcement except the price of the device. This gave our Russian mobile expert, Eldar Murtazin (of Mobile-Review fame) to chime in and tell the price. According to him, Palm’s debating over two different price points. First is the $499 or $399 while the second is $199 or $149. As you may have guessed, the high price refers to an unlocked Pre without any contract while the latter is of the carrier locked device with a 2 year contract.
Now these prices may not be true, but practically it makes sense. Pre will compete with the likes of iPhones, Blackberrys and G1s and selling the phone at the same or at a lower price will urge users to try the device. Even if Palm sets the unlocked price at $499, it will still be cheaper than most of the phones in its category.
