Google has officially launched the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL in India, marking the global debut of its new smartphone lineup. As successors to the Pixel 8 series, these devices come preloaded with Android 14. Google is also committing the devices to receive OS and security updates for seven years.
With the new Pixel 9 Series and AI in the trend, Google has significantly enhanced the AI capabilities of the Pixel 9 series with the introduction of Gemini Nano.
Additionally, for the first time, Google is opening three company-operated walk-in service centers in India, starting with locations in Delhi and Bangalore. A Mumbai center is also in the works and will be operational soon.
Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL
The main difference between Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL is the screen size while they mostly share other features. The Pixel 9 Pro features a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED Super Actua display with a 1280 x 2856 resolution at 495 ppi and a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, which can drop to 1 Hz. It also boasts a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL comes with a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED Super Actua display, offering a 1344 x 2992 resolution at 486 ppi and the same refresh rate and brightness as the Pixel 9 Pro.
Both devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back and are IP68-rated for water and dust resistance. In terms of optics, they feature a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x zoom, and a 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor that doubles as a macro lens. For selfies, they come with a 42-megapixel front camera.
Powered by Google’s in-house Tensor G4 processor, both models are equipped with 16 GB of RAM and offer up to 512 GB of storage. They will be among the first devices to receive Android 15 upon release.
Battery-wise, the Pixel 9 Pro houses a 4,700 mAh cell, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL comes with a 5,060 mAh battery. Both support 45 W wired charging, although a charger is not included in the box. Google claims that both phones offer an all-day battery life and can charge up to 70% in just 30 minutes.
The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are available in four color options: Obsidian, Porcelain, Hazel, and Rose Quartz.
Pixel 9
The base model, Pixel 9, features a 6.1-inch OLED Actua display with a resolution of 1080 x 2424 at 422 ppi, a peak brightness of 2,700 nits, and a 120 Hz refresh rate that can drop to 60 Hz. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection and weighs approximately 198 grams. Like its Pro counterparts, it is IP68-rated.
The Pixel 9 is equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera, along with a 10.5-megapixel front camera for selfies. It runs on the same Tensor G4 chipset but comes with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The device is powered by a 4,700 mAh battery that supports 45 W charging, and Google claims it can last up to 100 hours in extreme battery saver mode.
The Pixel 9 is available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Wintergreen, and Peony colors.

Pre-orders for the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL begin on August 14 in India, with availability to follow shortly. For the first time, these devices will be available for purchase through offline retailers like Reliance Digital, and Croma.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Google has introduced its first-ever foldable smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This device is powered by the Tensor G4 chipset and boasts an 8-inch inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. On the outside, the phone features a 6.3-inch Actua display, also with a 120Hz refresh rate and the same peak brightness. The foldable design incorporates a hinge made from “multi-alloy steel,” which is encased in an aluminum alloy cover for added durability.
Under the hood, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold runs on Google’s Tensor G4 chipset, paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold features a triple rear camera setup, including a 48-megapixel primary sensor, a 10.5-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. For selfies and video calls, the device offers two 10-megapixel sensors, one on the inner display and another on the outer display. These cameras also support Face Unlock functionality.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold comes packed with new AI-driven features. The “Add Me” feature allows users to include themselves in group photos, while “Made You Look” uses the outer display to capture attention during photo-taking on the inner display. Additionally, the Gemini AI can be used with Split Screen mode, enabling users to multitask more effectively throughout the day.
The foldable smartphone is powered by a 4,650 mAh battery, which Google claims can last for over 24 hours on a single charge. It also comes with an IP68 rating, making it resistant to water and dust. Google has committed to providing seven years of OS and security updates for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, ensuring long-term support for the device.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will retail for Rs.1,72,999 in India.
