Xioami announced the Mi Box 4K last week in India that allowed any TV owner to transform their existing TV into a Smart TV. By definition, Xiaomi’s own Mi TV 4 55 is a Smart TV but instead of running on official Android OS that their current TV portfolio is powered by, their maiden TV was powered by PatchWall running on forked Android.
Xiaomi did not release any software update to change the OS but it seems they are trying to right the wrong by offering their recently launched Mi Box 4K at a discount. According to a page on Xiaomi’s website, owners of Mi TV 4 55 will be asked to fill a form and upon successful validation, Xiaomi will email a Rs. 1,000 coupon that can be used towards buying the Mi box 4K, effectively knocking down the price to Rs. 2,499.
This is a smart move as it gives an opportunity to existing Mi TV 4 55 customers to get the full features of Android TV OS without investing in a new TV.
The Mi Box 4K connects to the TV’s HDMI port and gives users the freedom to enjoy all the latest video streaming apps and games and support for Google services. It also supports Chromecast and comes with Data Saver that lowers the resolution for longer hours of viewing time.
