Recently OnePlus overtook Samsung in India as the leader in premium smartphone market in Q2 2018. Now globally, Huawei beats Apple to take the second position in terms of smartphone shipments in Q2 2018. Huawei grew 41% Y-o-Y as it shipped 54 million handsets. This success can be attributed to recent launches of phones by Huawei and Honor brand. Although Samsung retained its top position but it also slipped 8% to 73 million shipments, Apple shipping 41 million handsets grew only 1%. This is a commendable feat by Huawei considering it does not sell in the US.
Huawei shipped 7 million P20 and P20 Pro and that too in their launch quarter. In India, Honor and Huawei both have been aggressively launching phones to target premium and budget phone market. Apple although had record financial results thanks to the flagship phone iPhone X, its other models like the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are not lapped that much. It is indeed an interesting smartphone battle with Huawei entering the scene and new launches from Apple and Samsung are just few days away.
