Xiaomi announced a new product line last year in the Redmi series, the Redmi Y. Y for Xiaomi stands for youth. The first phone Redmi Y1 is adopted by 46% of users from the age of 18 and 24. Today, they announced the successor to the Y1, the Y2.
The highlight of Redmi Y2 is the 16-megapixel AI-powered selfie lens. The phone also features rear dual cameras, 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel. The device is powered by Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor and will be available in two configurations, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. The screen size of the phone is 6-inches with 18:9 display. Redmi Y2 runs on 3000mAh battery with dual-SIM card support and also a dedicated microSD slot. The phone features MIUI 9.5 on Android Oreo.
The phone will be available from 12th June 2018 on Mi.com, Amazon.in and Mi Home. The 3GB/32GB variant will cost Rs. 9,999 and the 4GB/64GB variant will cost Rs. 12,999.
Along with the phone, Xiaomi also announced the roll-out schedule of MIUI 10. This version enhances the Sender ID in the messaging app. Along with logos and name of the company sending the SMS, MIUI 10 will now recommend things that can be useful to you as a user. For instance, if you receive an SMS from your bank, the quick menu added by MIUI 10 will suggest you to open the bank app (if installed) or look for a nearby bank branch or ATM. You can scan the QR code from the camera app and even invoke the app associated with the QR code.
One of the most interesting updates that MIUI 10 will bring is the Bokeh mode in camera with AI support. This feature will be available for the front camera and will be later made available to the rear cameras. There are selected devices that will receive this feature. MIUI 10 also adds Nature sounds that can be used for notifications and many other features like gesture controls, clear notifications and more.
