We’ve been seeing phones with really thin bezels around the display these days but Xiaomi today unveiled their new concept device (alongside the Mi Note 2) that does not feature any bezel. Dubbed Mi MIX, the phone has been jointly developed with world-renowned designer Philippe Starck that boasts an edgeless design. The phone strips off the physical earpiece speaker and proximity sensor to achieve a screen-to-body ratio of 91.3 percent. Instead, it uses piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology that allows ceramic drive unit to convert electrical signals into mechanical energy and users can listen through even without an earpiece speaker. An ultrasonic proximity sensor is also built into Mi MIX that works like a conventional front-facing infrared proximity sensor.
The full ceramic phone features 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821 processor, up to 6GB RAM, up to 256GB UFS 2.0 storage, 16 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front-facing camera, high-precision GPS, NFC, 4400mAh battery and Quick Charge 3.0.
Xiaomi will sell Mi MIX in two configurations: a 4GB+128GB standard version will retail for RMB3499 while a special Mi MIX 18K limited edition featuring 6GB RAM, 256GB UFS2.0 storage, as well as 18-karat gold rims around the rear camera and fingerprint sensor for RMB3999 version.
