The current breed of fingerprint sensors involve the sensor fitted under a button that is placed below the display on the front or at the back. LG, however, is looking to replace the conventional fingerprint sensor with this revolutionary glass-based fingerprint sensor module. In simple words, the LG solution, when implemented, removes the need to have a button and instead replaces with the glass on the display.
LG Innotek says, since the sensor is protected by the glass, it is not prone to water or damage from scratches. Additionally, the accuracy of detecting the fingerprint is greatly improved as the module has a false acceptance rate (FAR) of 0.0002%.
LG reckons a solution like this is the apt way to go as it gives manufacturers the liberty to design sleeker looking phones and protects the fingerprint sensor as well.
