Qualcomm has announced four new Snapdragon processors that will cater to the entry-level and mid-range smartphone market. Adding to the Snapdragon 600 series is Snapdragon 620 and Snapdragon 618 64-bit CPUs with Cortex A72 chip and new X8 LTE modem. Both Snapdragon 600 APs bring Bluetooth Smart 4.1, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and 4K video recording and playback, HEVC hardware encoding which was previously present only in Snapdragon 800 series.
Moreover, Snapdragon 620 and Snapdragon 618 support twin 13 megapixel cameras and Quad HD display (2K) support.
The Snapdragon 425 and 415 offer 64-bit octa-core performance, Full HD H.264 capture and HEVC playback and support for X8 and X5 LTE modems respectively.
Qualcomm plans to make the chips available to partners, which means we might see a few devices being announced at MWC next month and will release Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD) versions based on these processors soon.
