Facebook-owned Whatsapp today pushed an update that will either be lauded or frowned upon by many. The new update now lets the sender know if the recipient has read the message or not by showing two blue coloured check marks (ticks) against the message. This feature as I said could prove a boon or curse, depending on which side of the privacy spectrum you fall in. For the time being, there’s no easy workaround to save you from the blue check marks but if you use Pushbullet desktop notifications or an Android or Samsung smartwatch, you can read the messages on the wearable or on the PC without triggering the read check marks.
BBM was the first messaging service that made read receipt famous and was later integrated with other competitive messenger services.
